Now that 10KLF is no more, and the Winnipeg Folk Fest might as well be called the Winnipeg Richfolk Fest (not to mention the hassle of crossing the border), we had to switch up our musical weekend this summer.
I can’t say enough about Two Many Banjos; the music, the lyrics, the feel – they are a true treasure out of Duluth, MN. Forming new sonic territory by mixing Americana, bluegrass and world music; TMB isn’t afraid to try something new and different.
My wife and I attended their concert at Terrapin Station in Nevis, MN on a cold evening back in February. With the lights down low and the audience listening closely, TMB put on a fantastic show ranging from high energy bluegrass foot-stompers to walls of drifting world rhythms.
Ever been to Nevis, MN? Neither had I until last night. Why? One of my fav MN bands, Two Many Banjos, was performing at Terrapin Station. It was an excellent.
Truth be told, the original plan is a perfect example of me being an ass as a husband: I told my wife, “hey, let’s go see TMB at Terrapin for our Vday date!” – leaving out, “…so I can bring along my recorder and do an interview with Marc Gartman.” And what have I learned? That mixing work into the equation changes the overall flow slightly away from a true date, which is okay if you just admit it right away. Wifey and I had a lovely time :)
